“One of the many benefits of yoga is shedding limiting beliefs and negative self-talk. In the
stillness of yoga you can hear the kindler gentler voices.”
“Weight lifting can be a yogic practice, anything that practices the meditation of stillness is.”
“Yoga is the best accessory practice to whatever you’re doing in everyday life, even your job.”
-Thomas Sakoda, Synergy Dance + Fitness Vinyasa Flow instructor
Thomas Sakoda believes that yoga is about doing what you can and learning about yourself in
the process. He has been a yoga instructor for 10 years and teaches all forms. He strongly
believes in how the mind impacts the body, “if your mind is tense, your body is tense”.
Thomas’ teaching philosophy is that everything is connected: mind, flexibility, range of motion,
strength, balance, and stillness. It’s constantly in flux; we all need different things at different
times, and the more we practice the better understanding we have of what we need to focus
on at that moment. “Yoga means yoke, connecting the seemingly opposite of everything mind,
body, and breath.”
Before Thomas began teaching yoga he was in a physical job, overweight, and in pain. “I took
my first class, and it was hard, but it felt good. I kept going back and I lost weight, increased my
range of motion, and began to understand how what I was eating impacted my body. What
starts with a physical practice eventually leads to the mind-body connection.”
Vinyasa Yoga Flow with Thomas Thursdays at 5:30 pm
